All this publication's reviews Read full review. DragonVale is a game about raising and collecting a huge number of different types of dragons, and in that it succeeds.
Where you like your dragons cute and cuddly or large and ferocious, DragonVale has something to offer. There's also an ongoing hunt for the secret of the Rainbow Dragon, the one missing breed. I haven't found one yet. Will you? We had a great experience during this review, and as an ad-supported free app, we'd recommend to anyone with a little time to kill.
A charming and cutesy game but I'd love to see more of a mission structure to the goals. While goals do appear, it feels like some form of story might have been nice. Nonetheless, kids will love the satisfaction of watching their dragons grow and evolve. User Reviews. He reads the words on the buttons, analyzes where to put the habitats and paths, and decides how to use his in-game coins and gems. He has to practice patience as many of the items require real-time waiting.
All in all, pretty OK skills for a tablet game. The dragons and scenery are beautiful, and nothing is scary or offensive. All that said, we don't have any of the problems of many of these parent reviews because we don't allow in-app purchases.
And we won't allow it for our kid when he's 9 or 10 either. Just common sense. Parent Written by jawstheshark June 17, Good for patient children My nine year old daughter plays this game and loves it! She is very responsible and is able to get many things that cost "gems" for free.
I definitely recommend this game. Adult Written by thirdgradeteacher May 31, I think other people should play. It's a video game app. I think you should play Dragon Vale because it is easy to play and you can paly anytime. You need an Ipad or an Iphone to download the game. It is free to download. It is worth downloading. It is easy to play Dragon Vale.
Buy a habitat and a dragon, and then you will earn money and gems. Tap goals icon for helpful tips about the game. You can play anytime. After homework is done, after you sit down in a restaurant, also while you wait for your food, while you are in line for something. Dragon Vale is a good game. Dragon Vale is so fun you will have to give it 18 out of 20 stars.
Parent Written by fraud detector April 25, Fraudulent advertising designed to drain your pocket slowly so you don't even notice.. Behind the nice cover, this game works more like virus. Parent of a year-old Written by hummerfly March 13, In talking with him about it he had absolutely no idea when this was occurring, it never felt clear to him he was actually spending real money. There are places and incentives to "earn" within the game and after checking it through, it is slightly more "obvious" in some spots, that there will be a charge you are shown a dollar price below a feature or an object you are purchasing in a "purchase" area but there are also hidden charges that occur within the game playing process where one is NOT notified that it is a "real" charge, you must know this or figure it out!
This game felt like a horrible violation of that trust. In trying to respond I also tried to find the contact info for the game makers, which was never found, nor was there any where I could find that "explained" the rules and outlined cost features. I am extremely disappointed in this game, as we have never encountered one prior to this, which worked in this manner without a child or parent being notified that it was real money being charged and clearly detailing when this would be so.
Regardless of the attributes and cleverness of the learning it might encourage for the child, it is not encouraging a parents willingness to support it when it is designed to work in this way.
Adult Written by ece July 15, High credit card charge with Dragonvale dragonvale will cause your credit card bill extremely high charges. Do not use it! This game and their developers and owners do not have ethically acceptable business goals with this product. Adult Written by Byraguen May 27, Learned the hard way It's because of dragonvale that I found common sense media. My son came to me one night concerned that he had made purchases on dragonvale.
I had no idea what he was talking about until I saw my bank account. My son is 10 years old and he always checks with me before he purchases an app.
But since these purchases were in the app, I think it took him a little bit to understand that it was real purchases that would be charged to us. He was just sick about it and couldn't sleep. As much as it cost us He no longer has our iTunes password, and I now go and look at reviews before purchasing an app.
I think I was too comfortable in the fact that it looked like a cute little cartoon game. He still has the game and loves it, but now he doesn't make purchases. That is so sleazy of the game makers. They targeted young kids to make money. Adult Written by babuckner May 4, Predatory scam This app preys on kids who are too young to know better, tempting them to drop HUGE amounts of money on virtual "treasure.
We only knew we had a problem after our bank's fraud detection service called us to report the suspicious activity on our account. And I think what this app maker has done borders on fraud. How many other families have been through the same experience? After many hours communicating with iTunes and my bank, we got these charges reversed, but the way this app works borders on criminal.
We have always had iTunes purchases password protected and always require our 9-year-old ask us for permission for small add-on purchases. We didn't know what an "in-app" purchase was before this.
Meaning that once we have given the passcode for a small purchase, any other purchase could be made in that session in the app. To be quite honest this game requires patience. The core of the game is breeding dragons together to get new ones. Do yourself a favor, get a rainbow dragon by breeding a seaweed and firefly dragon over and over.
Teen, 13 years old Written by Electric Leaf April 12, Great Game! Many people are saying that they hate the game because of the amount of money spent. I personally have been playing the game since release, and only spent 5 dollars once when I was 8.
Money is not necessary to progress through the game. When you first start, things are a bit slow, but then you start going, and earn all the things you need. No money spent.
I get all of this through friends, who gift me gems and treats every day, but I only recently got friend in game. The game is great, if you can resist spending for the first bit of play. Teen, 16 years old Written by Blahyes March 27, Too much instruction I didnt even bother to get through the instruction because i was at level 8 and it still hadnt finished.
I feel that even if you are 2 and a half you dont need that much instruction. When i got to level 8 i just figured i had to create a new park but the instruction started all over again. Then i went back to the play store to make sure i hadn't downloaded the wrong app, but it was the right one, sadly. Its just not a well formatted app if you have to go through that much instruction. I would not reccomend this to anyone at all. Kid, 12 years old November 17, GREAT really good game, not for too young though in app purchasing.
This title contains: Consumerism. Kid, 10 years old February 25, Great game is fun to play for all ages, but can get old easily. This game is great and has no violence and no inappropriateness, but sometimes the game asks if they can pay you money, and kids have to be old enough to know not to play around with that stuff. But it's still really fun for all ages and I need to recommend it to all the kids out there!!
Kid, 11 years old January 3, Fun game with many in-app purchases. This is a fun game with many in-app purchases. Even though it is appropriate for ages 4 and up, some children that age will not be patient enough to wait eight hours instead of buying gems with real money. I rated this two stars because it seems fun and interesting but it's hard to progress without spending money, so the game gets really slow.
Also, I find it slightly difficult to play, and I'm usually good at these kinds of games. I know a five year old who loves this game and says it's really easy. Finally, Dragonvale seems to have frequent crashes, but maybe that's just my tablet, not the game. Overall Dragonvale is a great game if you are patient enough to wait awhile without spending money. Teen, 13 years old Written by Benjamin September 16, Very good game This game is very fun and good for any age really.
The only bad thing is Magic and wizards, but it's not inappropriate in any way. You can buy stuff in the game so as long as your kid knows not to buy it then you should be fine. The dragons are very fun and cute and no way scary at all. I would say everyone should get this game but it's your choice. This game is extremely fun.
