Link the portal. Earn AP for each link, and AP for each triangular control field, you make. Recharge the portal. Fully recharging a portal will use the same amount of XM resources either way but if you wish to significantly boost your AP while charging, then the slower and more painstakingly you recharge, the more AP you will earn. Many agents skip several of these steps as they can be time consuming and it's certainly fun to simply destroy portals and move on, but they are missing out on significant AP and advancement on their badges both of which are needed for higher levels.
For example, if you destroy a full enemy portal and put 1 resonator in it to claim it, you'll earn 1, AP plus points for any links and fields destroyed.
If you take a little more time to fully resonate the new portal your AP will almost double to 2, AP. Throw links and create fields and your points grow exponentially. Ingress can be played a little or a lot, there are no time limits. Everything is counted and every addition matters. Do Missions It normally takes tadpoles a long time to discover that missions even exist. Missions are badges that can be earned with AP and gear earned in the process by hacking specific portals identified in the mission.
Missions are usually fun and often lead you to places you wouldn't normally discover. A list of nearby missions can be found by pressing the button on the bottom of your scanner that looks like a Death Star thermal exhaust port, then "MISSIONS" towards the bottom left of the next screen. Farming "Farming" is the act of harvesting gear from one or more portals, or from a large concentration of nearby portals. Finding a farm is like finding an oasis as it allows you to resupply yourself with high level gear regardless the color of the portals.
Farms are typically located in parks, campuses, cemeteries, and corporate areas though any concentration of 3 or more level 8 portals will allow you to quickly hack lots of quality gear. Ownership of Portals The agent who most recently captured a portal is the current "owner" of the portal.
When first starting out, it's common to get a little possessive of portals you have captured. While being protective of your portals isn't a bad thing, being overly possessive is.
The portal itself belongs to no one. It's always in play. Besides, if the portal changes color, you'll earn more points when you recapture it and throw new links and fields. Portal Pictures When a portal first comes online, the agent who submitted the portal is also credited with having taken the portal picture and the agent's name is associated with the portal.
Some portal pictures are gorgeous while others are incredibly crappy. If you can take a better picture, you can get credit for it. Any agent can take and submit a new picture for any portal. Hint: Ingress' current portal display dictates that taking pictures in landscape mode works best. Once your new picture has been accepted it becomes available to all agents to vote it up.
The picture with the most votes becomes the new portal picture. Don't forget to vote up your own pictures. Often it only takes 1 or 2 votes to become the new portal picture. Use of Specialty Gear Mods New mods are introduced occassionally.
Collect them until you learn how to optimally deploy them. Key Lockers Key lockers are special capsules that can be purchased in the Ingress Store. There is no need to spend any money until you find that you routinely hit up against the inventory limit.
These capsules will hold up to keys each, yet count as only one item in your inventory. There is a limit of 5 key capsules per player and they cannot be dropped, recycled, or traded. If you hold down the fire button, the attack forms in a ring around the arrow that shows where you are, and contracts toward you.
Releasing the fire button at the point of closest contraction gives you a bonus to your damage for both bursters and ultrastrikes. See above regarding ultrastrikes; they're made to knock out shields and mods. If the resonators are showing significant damage, keep at it.
But if they look fine or if they replenish as you watch then go and do something else for ten minutes. You've gotten rid of the shields, so the portal's more vulnerable. Give the owner time to get bored, then come back and hit it again. Any hack, anywhere, can give you valuable gear.
The reason for this is that you'll rarely knock out a high-level resonator in a single hit, which gives the owner a chance to replenish it. They may also appear at post offices, libraries and fire stations.
Other locations are special buildings or businesses and locations of historical significance. The best way to locate these portals is going to be using the intel map. However, it is very time consuming using the intel map to find low level portals as you need to be zoomed in very closely. It is much easier when you know where to look for them. A lot of the starting portals came from The Historic Marker Database so that can be used to help locate portals near you. What you want to find is a place that has many portal located in close proximity to each other so you can easily walk between them hacking them and linking them together to create fields.
This will give you the ability to gain the most amount of experience action points as fast as possible. As you will not be able to create long distance links and large control field until you are at a higher level.
Walking around Washington DC I see a ton of places that could be portals, but time will tell. The whole area is filled with signs just beyond my reach. Had the opportunity to check this game out over the weekend I like what they did with the locations. Enemy Portals will give items and AP for hacking , but carry the risk of being attacked by the Portal. Upon the first hack the Agent will generally receive a Portal Key for that Portal, but no more will be awarded while still holding the Portal Key to that Portal, outside of specifically requesting one during a glyph hack during the Channel Command phase.
Any Agent can hack a Portal once every five minutes up to four times before burnout 4 hours. Burnout lasts for 4 hours from the time of the first hack. The use of Heat Sink and Multi-Hack mods change the cool-down timer and burnout rate, respectively. Hacking a Portal costs XM , based on the level of the Portal:. Holding down the Hack button, rather than tapping it, will bring up the Glyph window.
This action will give you bonus drops. For these bonus drops you will need to watch the glyphs presented to you and repeat them. Resonators are powered by XM. Resonators will self-destruct when their charge reaches 0 XM. If all Resonators deployed on a Portal go to zero, the Portal will revert to Neutral status. Recharging grants 65 AP.
